Since we are talking about a Polish band that sings in English, we might as well pay our respects to the wonderful performance of Riverside in this other universal language (the first one being, of course, music)
Polish Progressive Rock in Romanian Silver Church
On Sunday, the 26th of May 2013, Riverside performed for the second time in Romania. The concert, held in The Silver Church Club, the poshest place in Bucharest when it comes to indoor rock concerts, was a mix of good music and excellent sound. The playlist comprised both new SONGS from "Shrine Of New Generation Slaves" (aka SONGS) and older tracks from other albums, especially Anno Domini High Definition (aka ADHD - lovely mind games these guys are playing with us!).
With a mixture of psychedelic insertions and jazz-like improvisations, to be found especially on the tracks from the new album, we experienced a side of rock that we have nearly forgotten about. Plenty of hidden tonalities, with unexpected ruptures in the rhythm, sometimes slow and easy, sometimes just good old rock. Maybe that\'s what progressive metal is all about, and in this case, I a bow to the spirit of music and to the spirit of Riverside.
The clear sound, the depth of the lyrics, the synchronization between the instruments made it a concert to remember. The band vocalist, Mariusz Duda, who even had a little speech in Romanian (no worries, Mariusz, I, myself, don\'t often know what I\'m talking about either J) was happy to see the 400 Romanian fans gathered, singing, enjoying the show. And since he promised they will be back, we shall impatiently be waiting!
PS: Thumbs up for the Polish Cultural Institute initiative to promote the national image by the means of a rock concert, and for the band\'s merchandise stand, where, among T-shirts and CDs, Vinyl records were for sale.
